Since the acknowledgement of the Magnolia Science Academy in Reseda and the success of the charter school system, the Magnolia Foundation started their third charter school; second one in San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles in 2007. Magnolia Science Academy in Valley is the second successfully replicated charter school by the Magnolia Foundation serving 6-8 grades.
The school launched in the same area is resulting from the demand of the community in Reseda to send their children to the Magnolia Science Academy. In order to keep the objective of the charter school system “small size school” and MSA Reseda being in full capacity, the Foundation decided to duplicate the MSA Reseda to serve the community in the same area.
In its second year, Magnolia Science Academy reached the number of more than 200 students which is a significant success for a new charter school. Even though Magnolia Science Academy was in its first year, they were able to send one of their successful students to the Math, Science Olympiad summer camp to build math and science skills. The aim of the summer camp is to prepare students for regional, national and international competitions in math, science and computers. This proves that the educational model of the Magnolia Science Academy can be adapted perfectly in a short time.
